On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 and on Monday, May 7, 2018 our Chester Community Charter School scholars from East D, West, B, and East C competed in the Philadelphia Reading Olympics Competition. Then on Thursday, May 17, 2018 scholars from Upland competed.
The scholars did a great job with all four teams winning a blue ribbon!
Teams with the highest points are awarded blue ribbons! One blue ribbon at the middle school team level and three blue ribbons at the intermediate team level were awarded to us. To earn our blue ribbons East D students competed at Temple University, West B and East C competed at Community College of Philadelphia, and Upland competed at LaSalle University. Scholars competed against other students throughout the Philadelphia and surrounding counties.
Since December, each team here at CCCS began to prepare for the competition by reading a total of 20 books! During the competition, each team went through 3 rounds of competition where students compete against different schools throughout the Philadelphia and surrounding area!
Our middle school team was coached by Mrs. Laffend (East D). The three intermediate teams entered into the competition were coached by Ms. Stewart (West B), Mrs. Schmitt (East C), and Mrs. King (Upland).
We are incredibly proud of our fourth through eighth-grade students for scoring so high! A special thanks to our literacy coaches and parents that supported in any way.
Congratulations and well-done everyone!
