Cohort 9 - SAGA: Students Achieving Goals Academically After School program
The SAGA After School Program is a K-5 program designed to provide students and families activities that address their needs for improved academic achievement in Reading, Math, Science, Arts, and Technology. The program is funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.
The SAGA program offers many new and exciting experiences to students. Thanks to our many partnerships, the students are given the opportunity to take part in a variety of enrichment activities.
Artists from Hedgerow Theatre provide instruction focusing on comprehending stories, themes, characterization, vocabulary development, and storytelling, enabling them the students to communicate and have empathy.
Greener Partners provides the students with a hands-on exploration of food from seed to plate. Students learn about the science of plants and prepare delicious recipes to taste.
J. Lewis Crozer Library provides an SEL/Drug & Alcohol prevention program; Waterford Institute is a comprehensive, research-based reading curriculum that is individualized, self-adapting and engaging. This technology-driven program is created specifically for literacy in the early years (K-2); Finally, Reader’s Theatre is a collection of scripts meant to inspire and help students build their own models for good character. By reading, performing, and discussing these plays about people who persevere and overcome adversity, CCCS scholars will develop the mind set and skills to persevere in their own lives.
Social and Emotional Learning
Taproot Learning’s Camp Timber is a standards-based interactive SEL program, focusing on four modules- orientation, empathy, respect and self-regulation; Additionally, the Strengthening Families program is offered to families, with each session covering various SEL topics.
The Lego WeDo 2.0 gives students experience with robotics, in addition to the Dash Robots.
Chester Cultural Arts & Technology Center provides training for parents in Word and Excel classes.
